World Cup To Be Shown At Community Clubs

After all the uproar over the high prices paid for the World Cup rights and exorbitant prices football fans have to pay to get their fix of World Cup, a silver lining has appeared due to intervention by community groups. The Community Development Councils (CDCs) and People’s Association (PA) Community Clubs (CCs) have forged a partnership with Singapore Pools, SingTel and StarHub to screen the 2010 FIFA World Cup football matches “live” at 16 locations island-wide. The icing on the cake? It will be shown free! The screening of the football matches at the 16 locations organised by the CCs "allows people who share the love of football, regardless of race or social background, to come together to interact and make friends." It is interesting that such a move parallels life in 1960s where people were unable to afford televisions and flocked to CCs to watch their favourite programmes.
