Selamat Hari Raya Haji to all Muslim friends! =)

NTUC Fairprice Xtra Opens Today

NTUC's first hypermart opens today in Ang Mo Kio Hub and it is seeing a lot of people visiting it out of curiosity. While NTUC Fairprice is a co-operative, shoppers must keep in mind that only specific necessities are price controlled and lowest prices are not a given for other items. I experienced this first hand today when I compared the prices of a washing machine. While it goes at $399 at both Fairprice Xtra and Courts, there are some glaring differences: NTUC No installation Free delivery Delivery in 1 week 3 years warranty $30 vouchers from manufacturer Courts Installation Delivery charges of $29.90 Delivery in 3 days 3 years warranty $30 vouchers from manufacturer Additional $50 vouchers Apple for apple comparison, buying at Courts will mean paying $20 less and getting the goods delivered faster and with more complete service. Does the Xtra actually mean paying extra? Savvy shoppers must remember to compare prices before making purchases...

Hydroxycut

Just purchased my first bottle of Hydroxycut in an attempt to rein in my rising body weight. Somehow, despite the regular exercises that I had been getting, I have not been able to get my weight under control. Weight now is slightly over 91kg. Hope I can get it below 87kg by the end of Jan 2007.

Scheming Taxi Drivers

A word of caution to all who are taking taxis. Be careful when taking the taxis especially when you are not sure of the route to your destination. Recently, because I did not specify the EXACT route to take to my destination, I was taken on a more roundabout route and ended up paying more. In the first instance, going from Jurong to Ang Mo Kio, the speedy route is via PIE and Lornie Road during the evening peak hours but as I fell asleep in the taxi, the driver instead bypassed Lornie Road exit and headed into town utilising CTE and peak hour traffic jams. In the end, I had to pay a few dollars more for the trip and getting to my destination slower. The other incident was a trip from Sembawang to Ang Mo Kio. Instead of Upper Thomson Road-SLE-Lentor Avenue, the driver instead opted to go the roundabout way of travelling the entire Upper Thomson Road before turning into Ang Mo Kio Ave 1 despite being told exactly which part of Ang Mo Kio I was headed to. Again, it was a longer and more e

Yet Another MRT Death

Yet another death has occurred from someone being hit by a MRT train at Yishun. I was on my way to work when the MRT train started this announcement that "an incident" has occurred and some delay is expected. While the situation was not yet clear, I made the snap judgement to alight and head for the taxi stands... A wise decision it was, as soon after, the queues starting forming and many who were further back in the queue started making phone bookings for taxis in order to get to their destinations on time. Leaving early for work has its privileges. I was in no rush for a taxi and could leisurely read my newspapers while waiting. The inconvenience was compensated when I got a Mercedes luxury taxi picking me, without any booking! Arrive at work in style and comfort :-) Why are there so many cases of MRT deaths recently? Choosing to suicide by this manner is highly inconsiderate, posing much inconveniences for other people who are making use of the public transport system. Cou
